(by T. Schoeneck) It was with great joy and expectation that I headed off to Kishinev, Moldova on October 8. I had been invited to once again teach at Moldova Bible Seminary. As I was heading off there was a special excitement about this class. This class would be unique in that 8 of the students would be members of the Admiral basketball team. The Admirals are the Junior level national basketball team for Moldova. Their coordinator is Nick Morari, an MBS graduate. I first met Nick on my first teaching visit to Kishinev in 1999. As an “ex” basketball player myself who had been involved in using the sport as an outreach instrument for the Gospel, I was looking forward to meeting these players and learning more about their ministry.

The class was a blessing for me as I observed the excitement and growing comprehension by all the students of this understanding of the spiritual life - what it means to turn our focus upon Jesus and His life through us rather than a focus on ourselves and our “doing” for Jesus.

My prayer is that the seeds that were planted in this class will grow and mature as the students continue to seek more knowledge about and application of The Abiding Life.

Eight young men are undergoing hands-on training on coaching and project organization. As part of this training these young men will take seven courses provided by Moldova Bible Seminary that are designed to help in discipleship,  theology knowledge,  and ways of leading others we well as defending their faith.

During the 2015-2016 school year Moldova Bible Seminary has entered into a partnership with a sports outreach ministry titled Admirals Basketball Academy.  This ministry was started by Nicolai M., one of MBS graduates (Class of 2001), my cousin.

Admirals Basketball Academy has been developed into a Junior level national basketball team in Moldova, that rates as one of the top teams in the country.

The Admirals Basketball Academy regularly conducts trainings for different age groups in the city of Chisinau, the team had toured the state of Texas in USA playing various Junior teams.  The Admirals Academy has a major impact on the young and upcoming generations in Moldova.

Maria was born in a small village in a family of an Eastern Orthodox priest. As a young girl she sang in the the church choir.   After completing basic school at age fifteen she went to work at Candy Factory.  While working there she sang in a “people’s choir” and was finishing high school taking the evening classes.  Eventually she began to travel the Social Block countries with her choir and was encouraged to join the Communist Party in spite of coming from the family of a priest which in most cases land one in Siberia for a decade.  Eventually Maria was awarded a medal for Hard Work by the Soviet party. She was offered high positions of management, but in order to be close to her children she refused the offers and was forced to work as a custodian in a local building service.

Even there she proved herself a hard worker and was sent to school to learn how to fix elevators.  She became an electric mechanic.  Soon her husband died and due to stress she had a major stroke that left her speech impaired.  For months she was in a hospital.

She tried to come back to Orthodox church, but soon became disillusioned and just stayed homebound.  In 2008 though KBC deacon and elderly outreach she heard the Gospel and began to come to church.  Her speak has been slowly returning to her and even though she cannot sing like she used to, Maria is a follower of Jesus who is a faithful prayer-warrior and serve as encouragement to the entire church.

Note:  For the last three years KBC has been serving seventy to ninety elderly on regular basis.  Our team is dedicated to sharing the good news of the Gospel as well as provide for physically, emotional and spiritual needs of widows, veteran and just elderly in need.  Socialist system of the USSR promised them "bright future" but when the system failed elderly were left to fend for themselves. With meager means for survival many are destitute and fall prey of hunger, hopelessness or at times evil men looking to take away the little they have left.   Over the following several months we would like to introduce some of them to you and share their stories.  We pray that you would be encouraged to see the Lord's hands and feet at work and even might join in.

The students of Moldova Bible Seminary are involved in regular ministry throughout the year.  As part of their education they also travel on international mission trips during the summer and winter breaks.  This summer the geography of the outreach of MBS has expanded to include India.
Picture
Jeanya T. is a senior at MBS and during her years of studies has travelled across Moldova, Transnistria and Russia participating in ministry work.  Her focus was children and teens.  In 2014 after one of the trips to Russia she learned about a ministry in India that was started by Eastern Europeans and includes several orphanages.  For a year she prayed about going to serve with them.  As a result Jenya has joined together with a group of five young people from Moldova and traveled to serve the Indian orphans for a month.
Together with a team from Moldova, Jenya has been teaching children in four orphanages and also participated in an outreach to children in slums of Deli.   This was a life-changing experience. Upon her return Jenya has shared that she is now considering a long-term commitment to the country of India and the children she fell in love with.
